Album: Luke De-Sciscio – Theo / September 27, 2024 / by mynameisblueskye / original

You can watch any videos on Tennex featuring the cutest babies doing something such as waking up or playing with blocks and you will probably only feel a tenth of the way Luke De Sciscio does about his daughter.

Armed with only an acoustic nylon guitar and his vocals reminiscent of folktronic artist Chad VanGaalen croons with a warmth and a nakedness that ensures nothing more is needed to bringing out such songs. “Two-Headed Shadow” covers domestic life with the kid while “Daughter” is an entire love song written and performed passionately to her.

But some songs do cover much darker topics. “7 Layers” tells a story about the difficult pregnancy that almost took out the mother, “Spinning” is a delicate track detailing a difficult night out. The entire album, and “Deeply Religious, 18 and Pretty” tells a story about a girl who suffered a horrid fate while hoping to never have to see or hear the same fate happen with his kid.

You don’t have to be a father to feel the stories told here. It can be as easy to just listen to the songs as they are, but hopefully, it does give you a vision of how being one might be. Blissful, intimidating, anger-inducing, powerful, overall inspiring.
